Professional Practice, Client Management & Report Writing
Writing Market Commentary
Structure and write market analysis clients trust and act on — the question behind the brief, evidence that survives challenge, calibrated language, honest forecasts, and the four documents an analyst actually writes.
The promise
Turn analysis into writing a client reads, trusts, and acts on — sourced so it survives challenge and calibrated so they know which parts to rely on.
By the end you can
- Find the decision behind the brief and scope the deliverable to it
- Build a pyramid whose headings are conclusions, not topics
- Source and attribute so every number survives challenge
- Calibrate confidence rather than hedging everything or nothing
- Write forecasts with a basis and a falsifier, and risk that can be monitored
- Write the four formats — commentary, study, committee note, thought leadership
Where this course takes you
This course is part of 2 role tracks, each ending in a professional deliverable.
You'll produce: A city market snapshot — supply, demand, pricing, pipeline, risks, and a recommendation — written to a client-ready standard.
You'll produce: A highest-and-best-use advisory report for a land plot — market scan, demand logic, recommended uses, phasing, risks, and a fee proposal.
Curriculum
Structuring a Report
Answer-first structure and the report spine that carries a reader from recommendation to evidence and back. You learn to build the skeleton every market report shares before you write a word of prose.
Evidence and Assumptions
Building the evidentiary base of a report: assumptions tables with sources and ranges, triangulation in writing, distinguishing asking from transacted prices, and honest treatment of uncertainty.
Writing with Clarity
Turning evidence into prose a decision-maker can trust: evidence over adjectives, ruthless concision, using charts and data cards well, and recognising the common failure modes of weak commentary.
Writing About Change and Forecasts
Describing a trend without overclaiming, writing forecasts and scenarios that can be held to account, handling risk in prose, and what to write when the evidence is genuinely thin.
Executive Summaries & Recommendations
The final mile: writing the one-page summary, framing specific and caveated recommendations, handling proposal pricing and scope, and delivering work clients actually act on.
The Report Types
The four documents a market analyst actually writes — quarterly commentary, market study, investment committee note, and thought leadership — and what each one has to do differently.
Review, Revision and Delivery
The passes that turn a draft into a deliverable, how to take and give review comments without losing the argument, and a complete commentary written end to end.
